Help stop HIV/AIDS. Participate in the search for an HIV vaccine
Through our unique combination of services, FROST'D removes barriers to care for people in need.
Our Mission:
The Foundation for Research on Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Inc. (FROST'D), also know as "From Our Streets with Dignity", is a not-for-profit community based organization dedicated to the elimination of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) among high-risk populations such as sex workers, men who have sex with men, the homeless or substance-abusing individuals, and a lessening of the effects of HIV infection among these same populations. To this end, FROST'D sponsors outreach, education, advocacy, transitional housing, medical care and research programs based on a comprehensive, harm reduction model.
FROST'D's eleven programs serve more than 7,000 unique individuals annually. We target low-income neighborhoods with high rates of HIV infection, and we serve all persons at high risk of HIV infection. More than 85% of our clients are persons of color, and virtually all live in New York City neighborhoods that produce the highest rates of HIV infection, such as East Harlem, East New York and the South Bronx. Because of the high rates of HIV, substance abuse, incarceration and sex work among the clients of our programs, FROST'D has developed expertise in working with clients who suffer the effects of stigma and marginalization.
- FROST'D operates six vans as one of New York City's largest non-profit street outreach programs, serving all who are at high risk for HIV/AIDS.
- FROST'D operates two 24-hour transitional congregate residences for homeless people living with HIV/AIDS who receive a safe home for up to 180 days, food, emotional support, substance abuse and recreational therapies, medical services, and assistance in building the skills of daily living required to maintain permanent housing once it is secured.
- FROST'D operates a mobile syringe exchange program, focusing on the needs of hard-to-reach injection drug users who are at high risk for contracting and transmitting HIV/AIDS and other diseases such as hepatitis C.
- FROST'D has presented more than 20 papers since the First International AIDS Conference in 1988.
- FROST'D has distributed more than 700,000 condoms per year to people at risk for HIV/AIDS.
- FROST'D provides more than 29,000 meals and pantry bags each year to homeless individuals as part of our HIV/AIDS outreach, prevention and treatment efforts.
- FROST'D Primary Care, located at 369 Eighth Avenue (and 29th Street) in Manhattan, provides medical care, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS.
